We here at SAVS deal with interesting pet incidents all the time. While we work to nurse every pet to health that comes through our door we also try our best to make the owners feel relaxed while we deal with their emergency.
We deal with a lot of different emergencies every day and we wanted to share some of them with you.
Here’s our first one about Puff, the magic kitten:
I jolt awake one morning to my daughter screaming at the top of her lungs.
“I NEED YOUR HELP!” she yells and I jump out of bed and run out of the room. I turn the corner and see my daughter on the floor cradling her cat Puff who was in the middle of a terrifying seizure.
“I don’t know what happened…” my daughter says between sobs. She looks up at me with swollen eyes. “Please help her!” she pleads.
I race to get dressed and take Puff to work, who keeps convulsing the entire ride to the hospital. I try to get to the clinic as fast as I can, and when I finally arrive her pulse has gotten weak and her vitals do not look good.
Her initial lab results indicated that her kidneys were failing. It didn’t make any sense because less than 12 hours before she had been a perfectly healthy and cute little kitten.
It wasn’t until Dr. Hsieh and Dr. Crawford found out the real cause of her seizures that we were finally able to help.
Once we found out she was in kidney failure we were able to get her stable and run an ultrasound.
Nothing but a tiny little nerf gun bullet!
The ultrasound revealed a foreign body in her intestines that we were able to remove thanks to Dr. Crawford’s amazing surgical skills, saving little Puff’s life.
So what caused Puff’s scary rollercoaster ride right past death’s door?
So please be careful and have your children pick up their toys so they don’t accidentally cause unneeded (and costly!) harm to your furbabies. My family is so grateful to have Dr. Crawford , Dr. Hsieh, and the whole SAVS family in our lives! Thank you all for saving our little Puff!
