24-HOUR Emergency and Critical Care

The specialists at Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the Emergency and Critical Care Center at both locations. Our emergency centers are located at 141 East Fort Lowell Road and 7474 East Broadway Blvd.

Animal Pain Management

Your pets can be treated at the Southern Arizona Animal Pain Center, a special clinic that offers our patients an opportunity to be evaluated by a board certified anesthesiologist, Victoria M. Lukasik, DVM, DACVA. Dr. Lukasik has specialized training in the management of both acute and chronic pain.

The goal of the pain center is to create pain management plans that are specifically tailored to manage your pet’s pain. The aim is to make our patients more comfortable in their every day activities and to prolong their quality and quantity of life. You and the veterinary specialists will discuss pain therapy options and help you choose the best approaches to fit your pets’ needs and your lifestyle.

Dentistry

Animals need dentists too and veterinarians are dentists as well as doctors. At Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center, we provide your pet with routine and specialized dental care, such as periodontics (teeth cleaning and scaling); orthodontics (for a comfortable bite, not for cosmetic reasons); root canals; crowns and bridges with Peter Bates, DVM.

Dermatology

Our pets have skin problems that impact their health and comfort. At Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center, we treat all skin and ear disorders, as well as perform allergy skin testing. The care is provided by Amy Shumaker DVM, DACVD and Darren Berger, DVM.

Diagnostic Imaging

Diagnostic imaging has become an integral part of all veterinary practices over the last decade. As technology has advanced we have been able to offer much more than standard radiographs (X-rays) to our patients and their families. At Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center we have state of the art imaging equipment including a high frequency generator for our radiography unit, two-dimensional and three-dimensional ultrasound capabilities, echocardiography including color and spectral Doppler and computed tomography.

This provides your veterinarian and our specialists with the advanced imaging they need to determine the cause of your pet’s illness.

Internal Medicine

Our pets are susceptible to the same diseases and internal organ problems that we are. And just like us, they need an internal medicine specialist. At Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center, we diagnose and treat a wide variety of internal medicine disorders including endocrine (Diabetes, Cushings, Addisons), gastrointestinal, urinary, respiratory and infectious diseases. The Internal Medicine service utilizes state-of-the-art endoscopic equipment to non-invasively examine the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, nose and urinary bladder.

Treatment is provided by Stanley I. Rubin, DVM, DACVIM, who has an extensive background in diagnosing and treating conditions of the urinary tract. Dr. Rubin provides a wide variety of endoscopic procedures.
