Learn how to give pals CPR, first aid

From the ARIZONA DAILY STAR | By Kimberly Matas| July 12, 2005

Pet owners can learn to administer CPR and first aid to their companion animals at Pet First Aid training classes.

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona and the American Red Cross Southern Arizona Chapter have two classes coming up: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. July 23 and 6-10 p.m. Aug. 16. Both classes are at the Humane Society, 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd.

The cost is $20 and includes a handbook on animal first aid and Pet First Aid certification.

Pet owners will learn to:

• Recognize an emergency.

• Determine what information to give the veterinarian.

• Administer animal cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

• Identify poisons and other dangers to pets.

• Safely handle injured animals.

• Receive tips for preventing animal emergencies.

Preregistration is required. Space is limited, and classes fill up quickly.

To sign up, call Morgan Rost at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona at 321-3704, Ext. 168.
