Dr. John C. Angus is a specialist in managing difficult dermatologic diseases. After he received his degree in veterinary medicine from the University of California, Davis in 1994, he spent five years as a primary care clinician in small animal general and emergency practice. During this period Dr. Angus developed a strong interest in understanding and managing difficult dermatologic diseases.
Pursing this interest, he participated in one year of residency training in Mesa, Arizona, followed by a two-year residency at the University of Illinois. In 2003, Dr. Angus achieved board certification as a Diplomate by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (DACVD). A Diplomate signifies advanced training and is the highest medical designation for veterinarians.
Dr. Angus was a visiting clinical assistant professor at the University of Illinois, Veterinary Teaching Hospital, where he received recognition as a teacher of excellence. Dr. Angus has written extensively for journals, veterinary textbooks, and has been an invited speaker at national meetings.
Dr. Angus is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology, and the International Society of Veterinary Dermatopathology. Dr. Angus has recently been invited to join the Editorial Board of the Journal as a member of the Veterinary Dermatology Editorial Team. This publication is The Official Journal of The European Society of Veterinary Dermatology.
From 2002 until 2004, he served as president of the Illinois chapter of the Society of Phi Zeta, an honor society whose object is to promote scholarship and research in matters pertaining to the welfare and diseases of animals.
Dr. Angus’s special interests include video-otoscopy, management of severe ear disease, demodectic mange, and immune-mediated skin diseases. Dr. Angus emphasizes client education about their pet’s disease processes and involvement of their primary care veterinarian.
